More about Camille

Camille is a world authority on self-care and meditation for women, and how each woman can customize the practices to suit her body, emotional nature, and daily life. She is a pioneer in developing the applied psychology of the future, in which people practice techniques that balance their body chemistry and emotions and prevent trouble before it arises. Meditation and movement are powerful tools, deeply affecting your body and your perceptions. This is why "female energy ecology" is an important and useful concept, and absolutely essential for women. Camille's passion on the subject led to the writing of
Meditation Secrets for Women, and her continued dedication to its principles. The book has been translated in to German, Dutch, Czech, and Japanese. She often gives a dynamic Online Course based on the 12 Secrets of the book – Interested? Contact us.

Camille Maurine's unique approach to
inner exploration and creativity integrates the fields of meditation, yoga, dance, and theater. A dancer versed in the performing and healing arts, she is the creator of kinAesthetics and Moving Theater, a transformative creative process.

When she moved from Santa Fe to Los Angeles in 1989, Camille coined the term kinAesthetics for her work – the interplay between subtle energy sensing, deep fluid movement, and dynamic expression. This embodied attention tunes one to living with an aesthetic sensibility, a rich sensory awareness of reality as an unfolding artful creation. Since 1990, Camille has created and taught her experimental, "inside-out" performance process called Moving Theater, including Moving Theater of the Soul workshops at Esalen Institute. This powerfully transformative work focuses on accessing one's inner life and imagination through various awareness practices, and then creatively expressing those revelations in movement, sound, and speech.

Camille was active in
theater throughout her schooling, beginning in 6th grade, land later received acclaim for her role as "Medea" when she was 17. She studied improvisational theater at Second City in Chicago in the early 70's (taking the "L" with classmate Bill Murray), and performed in their theater for children. Camille trained in modern dance and performed professionally in Chicago, New York, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, also learning a rich array of ethnic dance forms, including classical Indian, Middle Eastern, African, Japanese, and Flamenco. She attended St. Xavier College, DePauw University, and NYU School of the Arts.

Dance remains the primary metaphor for Camille's integrative approach to meditation and energy practices. After she started meditating in 1972, Camille became fascinated with the internal dimensions of movement, eventually teaching meditation and body awareness in the context of her dance classes such as TransDanceFormations (1975). Her own inner journey led her to a profound inquiry into psychological, physical, and spiritual health, and to training in the healing arts. Her experience includes four decades of yoga, twelve years as a practitioner of Essential Integration body therapy (1977-1989), and Continuum movement since 1983. She has delved into the practices of many traditions, including Transcendental Meditation, Zen, and Tibetan Buddhism. The devoted study of Jungian depth psychology and dreamwork also richly informs her work.

Camille travels widely giving talks, performances and workshops based on
Meditation Secrets for Women. Camille and her co-author husband Dr. Lorin Roche give trainings and retreats worldwide in meditation, movement, and expression. With more than four decades each of teaching and 39 years of intimate relationship and co-creating, the couple share their experience with humor, compassion, and love.

LORIN ROCHE received his Ph.D. in Social Science from the University of California at Irvine in 1987. His dissertation was about the maps that meditators develop to navigating their inner worlds and the language they come up with to describe their experiences. His Master's Degree work focused on the hazards of meditation and the crisis points in a meditator's development.

Dr. Roche has been exploring, researching and teaching meditation since 1968, becoming a teacher of Transcendental Meditation. Over the years he has been developing
Instinctive Meditation – an approach that works with the fine structure of individual uniqueness, rather than imposing a standardized technique. Lorin draws on insights into how people learn gained from the cognitive sciences, the Himalayan meditation tradition that TM is based on, Jungian dream work, and Tai Chi. This integrative approach results in simple ways for people to learn many different meditation techniques.

Instinctive Meditation
tends to feel more like an innate skill that you are remembering than a technique that you are learning. This work is aimed at activating an individual's internal guidance systems and bringing forth your instinctive knowing, so that you can safely practice meditation without being dependent upon Gurus, systems or external authorities.

With Camille Maurine, Lorin Roche is the co-author of
Meditation Secrets for Women and Meditation 24/7. Dr. Roche is the author of The Radiance Sutras: 112 Gateways to the Yoga of Wonder and Delight, a contemporary, sensuous version of an ancient yoga text. Other books by Lorin Roche include: Meditation Made Easy, Breath Taking, and Whole Body Meditations. Meditation Made Easy is now available in Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch.

For the past 39 years Lorin and his partner Camille Maurine have been exploring what they call the Path of Intimacy and Engagement, which is different in important ways from the Path of Detachment. Together they are the authors of
Meditation Secrets for Women: Discovering Your Passion, Pleasure, and Inner Peace.

Lorin is on the faculty of Esalen Institute, 1440 Multiversity, Loyola Marymount, and Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Lorin and Camille train meditation teachers worldwide and give workshops, retreats, and presentations with
The Radiance Sutras.

Dr. Lorin Roche and Camille Maurine are currently offering a dynamic meditation training, the Radiance Sutras Meditation Teacher Training, which provides certification as a teacher in this life-affirming, integrative approach to inner practices.
